Purpose
We deliver portable long service leave schemes for these industries:
The ACT Government is expanding portable long service leave schemes with the new services industry scheme to commence in 2025. The services industry scheme will include:
- contract cleaning
- hairdressing and beauty services
- accommodation and food services
Eligible employers in covered industries must be registered with us. Workers’ portable long service leave can travel with them as they move between registered employers in a covered industry.
Role of ACT Leave
We are a Territory Authority established under the Long Service Leave (Portable Schemes) Act 2009.
To deliver our duties under the Act, our team:
- identifies eligible employers, assisting them to understand their obligations under the scheme, and ensuring they register their business and eligible workers
- collects levies from employers
- keeps records of worker service and employer payments to schemes
- assesses and pays out portable long service leave benefits to workers and pays reimbursements to employers
- keeps track of scheme assets and liabilities through annual and triennial reports
- invests long service leave funds
- reports to the ACT Government and Legislative Assembly.
